M\u00fcller S\u00f6hne manufactures and customizes glass ocular prostheses. Until 2011, plastic ocular prostheses were also manufactured in our institute. After cooling, the glass eye can be worn immediately (total duration approx. 1-2 hours) <\/li>\n<li>Since only a few tools and equipment are required, ocularists can work with their craft in many places, short distances for patients<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243; custom_margin=&#8221;65px|||||&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Disadvantages<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Poorer wettability with tear film due to slightly duller surface<\/li>\n<li>Significantly longer production time (2 days, several visits necessary)<\/li>\n<li>Reactions with the conjunctiva may occur<\/li>\n<li>The matt surface has little light reflection even after polishing (mechanically)<\/li>\n<li>The color may change over time (fading of the plastic)<\/li>\n<li>Often heavier than glass dentures, as they are thicker or completely solid<\/li>\n<li>No preparation of a bulbar scleral shell possible to cover an eye that should not or cannot be removed by enucleation<\/li>\n<li>A lot of tools and equipment required, therefore usually only producible at a fixed location, resulting in long distances for patients<\/li>\n<li>Prostheses made of plastic require an approval procedure with the cost bearers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Glass or acrylic prosthesis?
