Production of ocular prostheses
The fabrication of an ocular prosthesis takes place in several steps. When the patient visits one of our treatment locations, the ocularist selects a color from a large collection of semi-finished products. The vein mesh and shape are then customized.
In the following series of images, we show you the various steps required to manufacture an ocular prosthesis. The entire process from the raw material to the finished prosthesis is shown here. The ocularist needs 30-40 minutes to produce a standard prosthesis, which is shown below. Added to this is the time required for the prosthesis to cool down.
